Members can pick up on different days from week-to-week depending on your needs and preferences.

Members do not need to forewarn us which day or time they will pick up their produce.

  • All Partial Season CSA Members should have received and returned a “week selection spreadsheet” prior to the start of the season. If you have not received or returned this information, please reach out.

*all partial season week selection forms are due by June 1st

  • CSA Shares are all available for pickup at our farm.

    430 Copeland Hill Road, Holden.

Your share will be ready for you in the front of our barn.

  • Members will enter the barn and see produce displayed “market style” on the left side of the barn. Members will sign in and then proceed to gather their weekly produce share. Partial Season and Full Season CSA Share Members all receive the same amount of weekly produce. Each item will be marked and labeled with the quantity you are to take home. Some items, like salad greens will need to be weighed out individually.

Andrew and/or Becky will be around the farm during pickup days to assist with any questions.

*Please remember to bring your own reusable shopping bags and any ziplock/tupperwear for loose leaf greens.

  • This season, we are excited to announce that we are pursuing Organic Certification! At some point in the season you will likely see us start to label and market our produce with the “MOFGA Organic” seal of approval! While we have always farmed using Organic Practices, Andrew and Becky’s farming background is in Biodynamic Agriculture. Biodynamic farmers adhere to all the same principles that the National Organic Program outlines, however we take our practices a step further. Biodynamic farms function as a “living organism” made up of diverse, interdependent elements. For us, these elements are the fields, forests, plants, animals, soils, compost, people and the spirit of the place. As a biodynamic farm, we bring plants and animals together, generate our own on-farm fertility, enrich our compost with Biodynamic preparations, enhance soil and plant health with Biodynamic sprays and work in rhythm with the Earth.

If you have any questions about our practices, please feel free to ask!

  • There are two Organic Approved “pesticides” we use within our production. These are both options we feel safe using ourselves, and around our family and pets.

*Surround WP (Kaolin Clay) - this acts more as a crop protectant and deters pests from the the leaves of the plant by forming a milky-white barrier. We dip many of our early transplanted brassicas into Surround and also use it for some of our summer planted crops like squash and cucumbers for its added benefit of reducing stress during transplanting in the summer heat.

*Bacillus Thuringiensis - (Bt) It is a soil dwelling bacterium and is the most common OMRI cerified Organic spray in the world. While our main source of pest control is covering crops with fabric (the white cloth you see covering our fields), we use a low dilution of Bt as a last resort to prevent losing a crop from Cabbage worm.

  • Yes! We follow a very rigorous produce-washing protocol for all of the items you will receive in your share. This system is part of our Organic Certification standards, but is also part of what we value within our own quality control.

Greens are washed in a gentle aeration tub and spun dry. All bunched and individual vegetables ar double soaked.

We test our well water annually.

We consume the produce without re-washing it once it enters our house. However, it is up to your preferences whether you choose to wash the produce again before consuming.

  • Just your reusable shopping bags and any ziplock/tupperwear for holding loose-leaf greens.

Cash, Check, or Card is also handy if you plan to do any additional shopping in our Members' Market area.

  • If members are unable to pick up their produce, they may send a friend, family members or colleague in their place. Members do not need to inform if us they are unable to pick up their produce or whether they will send someone in their place - you may do this at your own discretion.

  • Because all produce is harvested in preparation for the CSA pickup, unfortunately, we cannot provide any reimbursement if you forget to pick up your Share.

We cannot accommodate arrangements to pick up your share outside of the designated timeframe.

Partial Season CSA Members may not choose another pickup week in exchange for a week they forgot to pick up.

  • CSA Members who find themselves wanting more produce than their weekly share includes may opt to purchase an additional share part way through the season. Depending on the amount of weeks into the season and your sizing up preferences (Partial to Full Share or Full to Double Share), the additional cost will be pro-rated. Please contact us via e-mail or in-person if you would like to pursue this option.

Members may also shop with us at the Brewer Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8:30-1:00 or the Bangor Farmers’ Market on Sunday’s from 10:00-1:30.

  • Members may take less than their allotted weekly amount of Produce. We are unable to reimburse you if you choose not to collect all of your produce.

All leftover produce will be donated to community organizations.

  • Because produce is harvest based on the number of CSA Members we have on a weekly basis, we ask that Members do not swap out items based on their individual preferences. If a Member of your family has a food allergy, please e-mail us so we can support you to make an arrangement that works well for us all.

  • Partial Season Members may inform us one week in advance if they need to switch a selected pickup week. We ask that Partial Season Members be conscious of how may times they ask to switch weeks.

Please e-mail or talk to us in-person if you would like to switch your pickup week.

  • Hart Farm offers u-pick cherry tomatoes and culinary herbs for all of our CSA members. During u-pick weeks, the fields will be open all week. This means that members may choose to come back to the farm Tuesday - Thursday if they do not have time for u-pick during Friday or Saturday Pickup.

We ask that you do not pick items when the crops are wet from rain or dew. This helps prevent the spread of any lingering diseases.

*Members should come prepared with a bag or container to put picked items into.

In an effort to have “time off” this summer, we ask that Members do not come back to the farm for u-pick on Sunday or Monday (our days off).

  • Many of our CSA Members have young children, but not all of you have met or know each other!

This year, we are implementing an arranged time during the pickup weekend where CSA families can gather at the farm at once.

Saturdays from 9-11, Parents are encouraged to bring coffee and let your children run free while you pick up your share and chat with other parents!

Families are welcome to explore the garden and animal areas -just be sure to stay out of the vegetable fields and watch out for electric fencing!

  • Members may park in our dooryard. Overflow parking can be found using the Holden Land Trust Parking Lot. Please be considerate of the HLT Parking lot and folks who may be using the lot for hiking.

*Please SLOW way down pulling into and out of the farm. Children, animals, equipment and farmers are all bustling around - We want to ensure everyones safety!

  • So long as you have noted your pickup weeks in the provided spreadsheet, members may choose to pick up multiple bouquets in a given week as part of their Flower Share.

(i.e. Becky Purchased an 8-week Flower Share and chose to receive two bouquets the weekend of August 16th & 17th. There are six other weeks where she has chosen to pickup one Bouquet).

  • If Flower Share Members plan to travel longer distances or run errands after picking up their bouquet, we recommend that you bring a container to hold water for the flowers.

  • Your flowers will last much longer if you give the stems a trim and take out any dying stems as needed. Make sure to drain, rinse and re-fill your vase throughout the week as well!

  • Many of the flowers we grow are, indeed, edible. However, we ask that you assume all bouquets are inedible and take precaution around children and pets. Some flower varieties can cause skin or eye irritation and some can even be poisonous. It is better to assume that you cannot eat the flowers or use them to decorate a cake! Always wash your hands after caring for your bouquet.

Frequently Asked Questions - General Farm Info

  • In an effort to expand our offerings, support fellow producers and provide our CSA Members with the most fulfilling, full-service experience, our retail market area will be stocked with items available to be purchased during pickups. Members can find dairy, Maine Grains, and select cuts of Hart Farm Pork, to name a few. Don’t forget to bring cash, check or card to make additional purchases!

  • Farm Members can shop at the Members Market on Friday and Saturday’s during CSA Pickup. The Market is not open Sunday - Thursday.

  • The Members’ Market is available to all CSA Members, Flower Share Members and Hog Share Customers. Existing Customers/Members may bring friends and family with them to shop at the Market. We ask that Members do not send their Friends/Family to shop at the Market independently.

  • Of course! We want our Members to feel like they are a part of our farm. We encourage you to explore our fields and linger during weekend pickups. Pack a picnic and walk the HLT trails. Enjoy your coffee and chat with fellow community members. This is what a CSA is all about!

    * in exploring our fields, please be sure to refrain from walking in any of the vegetable patches other than the u-pick. This helps to ensure that crops do not get damaged from wandering feet! Also, Our farm utilizes electric fencing to keep wildlife out and livestock in. Please be cautious around electric fencing at all times.

  • Lets face it- the grass is always greener on the other side! Sometimes our animals feel this way too. If you see pigs or cows in an area that looks suspicious, do not panic. Animals are easily coaxed with food and can (most of the time) be easily coaxed back to the area where they belong. We’ve had some impressive animal herding skills from friends and neighbors, but if you see an animal that needs attention please call Andrew at (503) 891-6424 or Becky at (508) 566-9667.

  • Hart Farm is a nesting location for a rare field-nesting bird called the Bobolinks. Through our efforts to incorporate livestock, rather than mow our fields, and to graze in areas where the Bobolinks are not nesting early in the season (such as the “back 40 field” or our “pocket fields”) we are ensuring that this species has time to stockpile their nutritional needs before fledging to South America. We work in collaboration with Ag Allies, UMaine Extension and Fields Pond Audubon. Last year, a male Bobolinks was tracked having made a successful journey from Hart Farm to South America!

  • As our Farm expands into Organic Certificition and offering on-farm events, we ask that refrain from bringing your dog to the farm.

Millie is our farm dog and she behaves as such. While she is friendly and harmless, Millie will often bark as people aproach the dooryard. We apologize for this behavior, she is just doing her job!

  • While you are visiting, please keep in mind that being on a working farm could pose risk to you or your family. There are often un-level walking surfaces, sharp objects and heavy equipment. We ask that you remain cautious when around our farm animals and electric fencing. Please take precaution and use your best judgement when visiting.
